Eric Croskrey: News Peg Idea

For my news peg paper I think I am going to write about my friend is about to get deployed to Afghanistan. He said their mission is to penetrate one of the last hostile cities. He told me the name of the mission and told me to look it up on the internet because it has been all over the news. I can't remember the name but I will try and incorporate the mission with a kid my age and what his thoughts are about it.

Another idea I was thinking about is doing something with a sport story and maybe talking about the Tiger Woods scandal and try to incorporate something local with, maybe my dad because he is really into golf.

  1. Eric,
I'm also writing a news peg feature on the war in Afghanistan. On Thursday I interviewed Dave Lewis, one of the ROTC instructors at Coe, about his responsibilities overseas. I believe that his last day at Coe was Friday, so if you want to include his story in your article, I could email you my interview notes.

If you choose to write about Tiger Woods and golf, I would check with Jane about interviewing your dad. She said the other day that journalists generally do not interview family members.

    Hope that helps!

  2. I believe this would be a great news peg story to write about because it is a topic related to a nation wide news. There are always larger articles about the war in Afghanistan, but a few amount that capture the life and feelings of the soldiers on the battlefield. I think it would be nice to finally here from someone close to us who is serving in the military to see what their view and ideas about the war. This is going to be a strong topic for a news peg story and I believe it is a good start.

  3. Those sound like really good news peg stories. They also sound very interesting and you have people in mind that would be good to interview. Besides just your dad or your friend, you might want to interview someone that is an expert on the subject. For instance, maybe interview a local golf course owner.

  4. I would really like to read about the person being deployed to Afghanistan. This would be a good news peg idea. Could you talk to someone involved with Coe's ROTC? This specific mission sounds interesting (and scary) as well. I think this would be a strong article.
