ASF update again

http://www.coe.edu/academics/art

Here is a link to where I have been getting my information on the art department. On this site you will see the many different aspects of art there are what type of people major in art.

ASF update

For the ASF update I am planning on writing about what the Art department is doing during the summer. I sent the department chair an email and he responded with not much is really going on with the department. So now I have decided to focus more on what artwork professors will be working on during the summer and try to write a story on that.

Field Station Update

Hey everyone got a new assignment. The new assignment is an ASF ( alternative story form), this is when we veer away from the traditional inverted pyramid. I am going to be writing it on the wilderness field station that Coe runs. Right now I have a plan to interview either Harlow Hadow or David Hayes. Both are instructors at the station and I cant wait to hear there views on the story. I am planning on getting the basic background information from them. But are limit is 300 hundred words so I am going to be pressed for space. I will keep you posted as more information comes available.

If you want to look up on the field station here is there website

Summer Time

This summer I will doing an internship at Northwestern Mutual. Basically I am going to try to make a lot of money and get my internship out of the way for graduation. I also have a couple trips to Chicago planned and also may be going to North Carolina. A lot of the trips are up in the air right now but one thing I do know is I will be working at my internship. I really don't have a clue what happens at Coe in the summer. I'm sure there are a lot of meetings between staff members.

Slide Show

I am doing my slide show with Garret. We decided to do it about the weight room at Coe and show how students use the facility. While taking pictures I have learned that it is difficult to find good ways to use the rule of thirds. Whether I could get a better picture holding the camera vertical or horizontal. Another difficulty in the weight room is getting girls that are willling to let you take a picture. Guys haven't really had a problem with the pictures. Girls have been less than willing to let us take a picture.

Slideshow preview

For my slide show I am going to be taking pictures of Coe's golf team. I chose this because I am an avid golfer and what is better than taking pictures of something you love. This picture is of Brent miller doing an impression of a pro golfer. I like this one because it shows how much fun they have on the golf course while playing, because they say if you are not having fun you are not truly playing.

My summer

This summer I will be working for the physics department here at Coe. But i will not be working for the whole summer. I plan on doing summer research for half of it than the other half I will be traveling to places such as Arkansas and Texas. But while at Coe i plan to be playing a massive amount of xbox and also going out on the lake top wakeboard and wakeskate. My friends that will be joining me are Jacob Deaton Kris Hopkins and Garret Smith. I am really excited to be at Coe for the summer and I hope that it will be fun.

Photos in Class

This is just one of my practice photos that I took in class when we where practicing for our slide show. I like this photo because it really is a picture of a picture. I took this by taking a photo of someone taking a picture of Jacob Deaton. There are other ones that I took but i could not post. If you would like to see the other ones leave me a comment and I will post the rest.

Slideshow sneak peak

This is just one of the pictures you will be looking at when I post the finalized slide show. Right now we are working on our slide shows, putting them together and adding cut lines. My slide show will focus on the Coe golf team and how they get ready for a tournament. I have some really good images and I hope you will be as excited as me to see them.

News Peg

I finished writing my news peg story. It took a lot of work and research. I interviewed my friend and his recruiter for the marines. I also researched the story a lot because there was a lot of details my friend left out about the mission because he wasn't too willing to talk about the trip. I was pretty dissapointed in the grade Jane gave me because I felt like I put a lot of work into the paper. Overall I think I wrote a good paper, and everyone else that I have had read it really liked what I wrote.

Finally done

I just rewrote my final story for the news peg. I think I did a really good job getting different views on it. I liked the topic I chose because I love to golf and it really showed in this piece of work. I went to the writing center to get extra help with my sentence structure and writing format. They really helped me out down there I would recommend you to go to them if you are having trouble with a a paper. Over all the news peg feature was an interesting piece but also hard to write. It was hard because when you wanted to talk about something else in the topic you really couldn't. You had to stay on topic the whole paper and try not to say something that was not really part of the main story. I believe that mine stayed on topic well and was to the point.

Slideshow

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/4999736/
I like this slideshow because it isnt just limited to one topic. This week in pictures recaps all the news events or interesting things that happened in the week. It is also interesting to go back and look at past weeks on here. Not being limited to one topic really helps this slideshow because it makes the viewer look through all the photos because they are not really knowing what to expect with the next photo.

Class Pics

I like this picture because it gives a view of the class as a whole. You get Carrington really engaged in what Jane is saying. Then you have Tim half asleep up front. I think you are really able to get a good idea of the different ways people spend their class time. The reason I like this picture is because there is the majority of the class in it so there is not just one person to focus, you look at this picture for a couple minutes to see everything.

Contact for interviews

I finally made contact with my friend to get an interview for my news peg. He also gave me the contact information to his recruiter, which I can use as my expert. He brought up a lot of really good points when I was interviewing him. Sometimes I think I get stressed out as a student but talking to him almost makes me embarrassed, hes getting ready to go to war! He also told me how he has to go through process of getting his possessions taken care of while hes gone like his truck. Makes me appreciate the efforts of our soldiers even more.

News Peg after meeting with Jane

I met with Jane yesterday and got some good ideas about the direction of my story. I am going to try and talk about the conflicts our soldiers face, mainly marines when they are preparing to be deployed. There is a side that people rarely think about when soldiers get deployed. They have to do a lot of extra training for the mission which means they get even less contact with their family. I am having trouble trying to get contact with my friend because our schedules have been conflicting. The best time for us to talk would be at night but that is the only time he can really talk to his family and fiancé. We have planned to do the more formal interview tomorrow during the day but I still am able to send texts periodically so there will definitely be more contact and information to come.

News Peg Update

So far for my news peg I have been able to talk to my friend that is training for the mission to Afghanistan. I have also been researching this story through the news to see if there is more specifics out there. There is a lot of news about the war obviously with Obama getting questioned more and more. I should have an interview with my friends mom sometime in the near future.

New peg summary - Update

So far for my news peg I have decided to interview a few people to help make the story more informational. I am going to interview a golf pro at Cog Hill golf course by my house in Chicago Illinois. This will really give me some good information on what's going through a professional's head while he is in the middle of a round. I am sure everyone wants to know what they are thinking about and how they take their mind of the distractions to focus on the round they are playing. Then i will interview M.J Moore of the COE College golf team. This will give me some really good insight to how a younger person without the training of a professional handles stress on the links. Overall i think with these two sources will help me make a really well written paper.

Hawkeyes O-line

In one of the blogs from the gazette online, it was talking about the O-Line from the Iowa Hawkeyes. I am pretty interested in this piece because here at COE I play on the O-Line. While reading this I could relate to a lot of the information that was being posted, such as injuries affecting the entire line and kids having to step up and make plays. This is like the situation when my friend Jacob had to come in and play when our starting left tackle got hurt due to an infection. He had to come into a really tough game half way through the season and prove to the coaches he deserved to be there. He did prove to the coaches that he deserved to be there and got the starting position. Me personally I am just waiting for the chance to get i there and prove myself.

5out of 5

Pros: Smooth Ride, Quick Turns, Durable

Cons: Heavy

Best Uses: Flat Water, Aggressive Tricks

Flight: Big Pop(Height)

Board Feel: Fluid (Very Stable)

Weight: Average

Describe Yourself: Intermediate

I use this product at least once to twice a week and I have no complaints. It is a very reliable board that i heard about through one of my friends. I have used this board a lot and it has taken its fare share of beatings. Even to this day it still rides smooth with a lot of pop. It is a bit heavy compared to other boards that I have ridden, but i have still to find another board with the durability and pop of this one.

Tim Ahline: First Feature

For my first news peg, A news peg story is a feature story that is related to a major story in the news now.I am planning on writing about how the physiological side of golf can really get to you. I am going to interview some of the COE golfers and get there input about the topic.

Eric Croskrey: News Peg Idea

For my news peg paper I think I am going to write about my friend is about to get deployed to Afghanistan. He said their mission is to penetrate one of the last hostile cities. He told me the name of the mission and told me to look it up on the internet because it has been all over the news. I can't remember the name but I will try and incorporate the mission with a kid my age and what his thoughts are about it.

Another idea I was thinking about is doing something with a sport story and maybe talking about the Tiger Woods scandal and try to incorporate something local with, maybe my dad because he is really into golf.

Tim Ahline: A little introduction

My name is Tim Ahline and I signed up for journalism because it was a writing emphasis class. But that was not the only reason, I wanted to further my knowledge in how to write in a journalism style. This is much harder than regular writing because of the style. I have four friends in class with me and it is a really fun class i really enjoy this and i look forward to this class every day.

When I'm not in class you can either find me playing video games or working out for the Kohawk football team. I enjoy most video games, my favorite for the xbox are HALO, COD, and Guitar hero. The ones I enjoy on the computer are Age of the Empire 2.

Eric Croskrey: Intro

I signed up for Journalism Workshop because I needed a writing emphasis class for graduation. Also I was thinking about a minor in Public Relations but we'll see where that goes.
