News Peg after meeting with Jane

I met with Jane yesterday and got some good ideas about the direction of my story. I am going to try and talk about the conflicts our soldiers face, mainly marines when they are preparing to be deployed. There is a side that people rarely think about when soldiers get deployed. They have to do a lot of extra training for the mission which means they get even less contact with their family. I am having trouble trying to get contact with my friend because our schedules have been conflicting. The best time for us to talk would be at night but that is the only time he can really talk to his family and fiancé. We have planned to do the more formal interview tomorrow during the day but I still am able to send texts periodically so there will definitely be more contact and information to come.

News Peg Update

So far for my news peg I have been able to talk to my friend that is training for the mission to Afghanistan. I have also been researching this story through the news to see if there is more specifics out there. There is a lot of news about the war obviously with Obama getting questioned more and more. I should have an interview with my friends mom sometime in the near future.

New peg summary - Update

So far for my news peg I have decided to interview a few people to help make the story more informational. I am going to interview a golf pro at Cog Hill golf course by my house in Chicago Illinois. This will really give me some good information on what's going through a professional's head while he is in the middle of a round. I am sure everyone wants to know what they are thinking about and how they take their mind of the distractions to focus on the round they are playing. Then i will interview M.J Moore of the COE College golf team. This will give me some really good insight to how a younger person without the training of a professional handles stress on the links. Overall i think with these two sources will help me make a really well written paper.

Hawkeyes O-line

In one of the blogs from the gazette online, it was talking about the O-Line from the Iowa Hawkeyes. I am pretty interested in this piece because here at COE I play on the O-Line. While reading this I could relate to a lot of the information that was being posted, such as injuries affecting the entire line and kids having to step up and make plays. This is like the situation when my friend Jacob had to come in and play when our starting left tackle got hurt due to an infection. He had to come into a really tough game half way through the season and prove to the coaches he deserved to be there. He did prove to the coaches that he deserved to be there and got the starting position. Me personally I am just waiting for the chance to get i there and prove myself.

5out of 5

Pros: Smooth Ride, Quick Turns, Durable

Cons: Heavy

Best Uses: Flat Water, Aggressive Tricks

Flight: Big Pop(Height)

Board Feel: Fluid (Very Stable)

Weight: Average

Describe Yourself: Intermediate

I use this product at least once to twice a week and I have no complaints. It is a very reliable board that i heard about through one of my friends. I have used this board a lot and it has taken its fare share of beatings. Even to this day it still rides smooth with a lot of pop. It is a bit heavy compared to other boards that I have ridden, but i have still to find another board with the durability and pop of this one.

Tim Ahline: First Feature

For my first news peg, A news peg story is a feature story that is related to a major story in the news now.I am planning on writing about how the physiological side of golf can really get to you. I am going to interview some of the COE golfers and get there input about the topic.

Eric Croskrey: News Peg Idea

For my news peg paper I think I am going to write about my friend is about to get deployed to Afghanistan. He said their mission is to penetrate one of the last hostile cities. He told me the name of the mission and told me to look it up on the internet because it has been all over the news. I can't remember the name but I will try and incorporate the mission with a kid my age and what his thoughts are about it.

Another idea I was thinking about is doing something with a sport story and maybe talking about the Tiger Woods scandal and try to incorporate something local with, maybe my dad because he is really into golf.

Tim Ahline: A little introduction

My name is Tim Ahline and I signed up for journalism because it was a writing emphasis class. But that was not the only reason, I wanted to further my knowledge in how to write in a journalism style. This is much harder than regular writing because of the style. I have four friends in class with me and it is a really fun class i really enjoy this and i look forward to this class every day.

When I'm not in class you can either find me playing video games or working out for the Kohawk football team. I enjoy most video games, my favorite for the xbox are HALO, COD, and Guitar hero. The ones I enjoy on the computer are Age of the Empire 2.

Eric Croskrey: Intro

I signed up for Journalism Workshop because I needed a writing emphasis class for graduation. Also I was thinking about a minor in Public Relations but we'll see where that goes.
